EVOLUTION AND THE BIBLE.

—The plain man docs not know how much value to attach to the argument from structural resemblances, which he considers to be the foundation of what he understands by evolution. But hero is a clear-cut issue:—According to the Bible, the human race started afresh with eight persons in the time of Noah, or about 4270 years ago. The evolutionist holds that its origin is lost in the mists of antiquity; that, at any rate, it began, far before the time of Noah; say, at least, twice as long ago. Is there not enough difference here to provide a real test by means of the present population of -the earth ? If tho rate of increase, necessary to bring the present population out of the eight souls of Noah's time, is an cxccsaive one, especially when war, plague, and famine aro allowed for, then Noah must be' discarded. But if the rate of increase is" a moderate one. will not the evolutionist explain why the rate of increase has been so much less among those from whom he traces his descent ? • ; Albert Wilson. St. Stephen's School, Parnell, May 1, 1923
