COAL AND OIL STORESHIP.

BARQUENTINE CONVERTED. NORTHERN OO.'S REQUIREMENTS. The ex-inter-colonial steel baronentine Wanganui, which was dismantled at Auckland some months ago and was afterwards sold to the Northern Company, is being converted into a coal and oil storeship for her new owners. . Tanks are being fitted in the fore peak and the stern for bulk oil fuel. In-between will be a large hatch for coal. ? The Northern Company has six auxiliary schooners which burn crude oil, consequently it uses a considerable quantity. For some months the steamer Kanieri hah been used as a store ship, but the oil had to be stored on board in barrels, thus en tailing considerable expense in handling. On the other hand, ; the Wanganui will carry the oil in her tanks and will be filled through' a hose while she is berthed alongside an overseas oif^ l steamer. The Wanganui will be moored in the stream, where the company's oil vessels will go alongside and pump ' from her what oil they require'. The Wanganui will be the only bulk oil store ship in Auckland. As a barquentine she was of 309 tons.
