MR. MARK FISHER, R.A.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 4.5 p.m.) LONDON, April SO. The death is announced of Mr. Mark Fisher. R.A.

Mr. Mark Fisher was born in Boston, in the United States, of English and Irish parents. ' When quite a child he showed & marked talent for drawing. The opportunities for studying art at that time being much fewer* than now, his earliest instruction was gained at the Lowell Institute. His first efforts were portraits and figures, but his love of outdoor subjects and life induced him to take up landscape and animal painting. At the age of 20 he went to Paris. On his return to Boston he met with scant encouragement, so he went to England and married and settled there. He was made a Royal Academician in 1919. The Auckland" Art Gallery has an example of Mr. Fisher's works, " The Flock," an old painting in the Mackelvie collection.
