PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.
CONCRETING STANLEY ROAD.
[mt TELFGRATO.--OWN CORRESPONDENT.] . TE ARORA. Tuesday. The Piako County Council "■ met at Te Aroha yesterday, the "chairman, Mr. F. W. -Walters, presiding. , , Lengthy discussion arose concerning the concreting of Stanley Road, which '. con- : nects the glaxo factory at Te Aroha West with the railway. ; The work was commenced about 16 months ago, but owing to failure to secure a sufficient supply of metal and other circumstances the work had to be stopped after 1 mile 54 chains had been. completed, out of a total length of 4 miles 1 chain. For this work a £13,000 loan was raised, and to this had to be added subsidies and.grants amounting to about £8500, which amount is left to carry on the work as. far as possible. After much discussion the council decided to charge the Te Aroha West area 10 per cent, depreciation on the concrete mixer while it remained in that ares, and it further decided to proceed with the road concreting work at, once, and that the remainder of the work be done by contract. ■;-•■' ".."'■•■" '''...'.'■'..•' -
The Public 1 Works Department wrote with reference to 'the work required to complete No.- 8.,-! Road,, Talunnui, and which comprises the construction of a 25ft.-span bridge and 95 chains of foundation, estimated to cost £510 in all. ;• On account of the inability of the council to meet the vote of £250. £ for £. which was previously provided for this work, the Minister agreed to omit the £ for £ condition and increase the vole to £'OQ. The amount required to be found by the council and the settlers will therefore be reduced to £110. The council agreed to accept the offer, and to prepare plans for the work and submit them at once.
The agreement with the Hauraki Plains Countv Council and the Piako County Council* regarding the proposed construction of the bridge over the Piako River near Patetonga to connect the Waitoa and Te Aroha districts with the Hauraki Plains was finally approved, and also that relative to the " proposed read deviation scheme between "Pateionca and Tahuna.
