TAMAHERE ROAD BOARD.
REPORT ON YEAR'S WORK. (by IELECBAFH.—OWN 1 correspondent.] ; ' HAMILTON. Monday. The . annual meeting of the Tamaherei Road Board was held .on Friday. Mr. T. Clarkin presided over a good attendance of ratepayers. , ■ \; . The statement of accounts showed that at tho beginning of the year the board had £480 in hand, while there was now a balance of £475 8s Id. Rates collected totalled £1954 16s 9d ; Government subsidies, £470 2s 9d; and contributions from the Glaxo Manufacturing Company, £66 lis 7d. ...t ; ! >; ; - In the- annual report it was stated that the ■ difficulty .. experienced in getting' regular supplies of metal in sufficient quantities had retarded the road work in bitumen. The board's quarry had not developed as , expected, and work there had been discontinued. Up to tho present the cost of the roads taken in hand by the board was given as follows:--Matangi-Platts Road, £5410; MatangiHinton's Gully. £4810; Hoeka Road, £1380 Tauwhare-Morrinsville Road, £270. The board had borrowed £5000 from the State Advances Office at 4| per cent., and £5000 from the Public Trustee at 6 per cent. Of the £33,000 loan sanctioned, £15,000 had been raised at 4£ per cent, and £5000 at 6 per cent. The outstanding rates for the last two years totalled £357. In addition, tho whole of the native rates were unpaid. , Before* the report iand balp.nce-shcet were adopted there was a lively discussion, and much criticism of- the board's administration.
