DEPUTATION TO ; MINISTER. DEVIATION OF WATER -RACE. ( [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] - TTTA'MSS. Monday. / The Minister for Mines, the Hon. G. J. Anderson, • arrived at Thames by train this morning, .in connection with , the transfer .. of the Water Race from the County to the . Borough Council. Tht ) Minister visited the race in company with the Mayor and Borough officials and inspected the portion known : ; as v the j shooting gallery, where slips have been of frequent occurrence recently in consequence of which great difficulty has been experienced in keeping the race in working . order. It was : proposed to ' obviate this difficulty by a costly deviation, ' am. the Mayor; asked the Minister ,to subsidise the work. , The Minister. agreed ■to the transfer. of the race to the borough council and promised to have the necessary . legislationframed vesting it in the borough- council. - With regard to the assistance for the deviation work, :he promised to consider the matter. . - Deputations from the :• School of Mines, asking for extra accommodation at the school ' for engineering/ classes {andfrom the- directors : of the Waiotahi Goldmining . Company ■ asking • for assistance . 'in " unwatering " the • mine to the A 100 ft. level, were received." The - Minister promised to ' consider both requests. - .He visited the underground working -, of. the mine and ...inspected .the reef .. which.- is being worked. He stated, he required a formal written proposal setting out .-.what' proportion of the cost the other parties were prepared-to provide. The . Minister ' left,: for Wellington by the. 4 p.m. train.
