FRENCH STEEL EMBARGO.
NO EXPORT TO BRITAIN.
FOREIGN OFFICE PROTESTS.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.. (Reed. 3.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 21. The Foreign Office- has protested to the French Government against its recent order prohibiting the export to Britain of British shell steel scrap, resulting from the break-up of British shell dumps in France. A strange feature is that the French Government at the same time waived its export prohibition as far as Belgium and Italy are concerned. M. Poincare attempts to justify the action on the grounds of national expediency, but he is silent on the point of discrimination between the Allies.
