As the result of the flooding if a coalmine at Pensnett, Staffordshire, five men are missing, and it is fearec; that they are drowned. Fifty men were in the pit when the water rushed in. The men made for the shaft, the . water sweeping behind them and carrying timber and everything along. Presently the cage became jammed, and five men were left behind. The water has risen so high that there is little hope of their safety. Thousands of people are lining the pit-bank and pumping is proceeding frantically.
