A BARMAN KILLED.

Arthur James Purden, aged 45 years, barman, of Hastings,. was killed £. by ' a train at the Famdon Station yesterday afternoon. Deceased was walking between two sets of I rails to board a train on the loop line when a v train from the other direction came in and -he apparently did not hear' the whistle until the engine was 15 feet from him. Had ;"> he stepped back one pace he ; would have escaped, but he ; attempted : to regain the platform, 10 feet away.; ;; The: cowcatcher threw him -on to _ the platform, and in spite of the r; efforts of .■! two *v! bystanders the deceased rolled under the train. His body was terribly mutilated.
