DESTITUTE AND HUNGRY.
MAN'S SORRY PLIGHT.
A case of destitution came before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court on Saturday. A middle-aged man, Mati, Borich, was charged with having insufficient lawful means of support. Accused told the police he had come to Auck-1 land from the country about six or seven ■weeks ago and had been without work the whole of that time. . He was found i ■wandering about the wharves and had apparentlv not eaten a meal in the last^ three or four days. ■ He had stated that! he was in debt to a storekeeper at Man-
gawar. * A Salvation Army officer offered to find the man work, and on accused agreeing to accept the offer he was discharged without a conviction.
