"POPPY DAY."
RETURNED SOLDIERS' NEEDS.
The holding of New Zealand's second "Poppy Day" to-morrow will give citizens throughout the Dominion an opportunity of proving that they have not forgotten their debt and obligations to the men who fought and suffered in the great war. ;At the present time, there are many returned soldiers in Auckland in need of assistance, and it is anticipated that there will be many more who will urgently require aid when the winter sets in.
A strong body of collectors has been organised, and they will sell poppies, "the flower of remembrance," in Auckland city and suburbs to-morrow, starting at eight o'clock in the morning. The total- sum donated will be used for the relief of
need i among the returned soldiers, less the cost of the making of the poppies, which will be refunded to the widows and children of French soldiers." The poppies will be sold at one shilling and half a crown apiece. Purchasers are particularly requested to wear "the flower of remembrance" on Anzac Day as a tribute to the memory of the gallant dead.
