CURRAN STREET PLAYGROUND
: The campaign, for "■-, funds for - the.:, improvement of the Curran Street (Pohvaonby) School grounds -was opened on Saturday with a -garden- party held in Mr. J- Court's residence, Hamilton Road.' Despite the adverse weather, conditions there was a large attendance*' ,- and the function, which was r opened by Mr. M. J.; Savage,; M.P., was a, pronounced success. , Owing to the weather the stalls had ■ been % erected yin the school, ;< but a tennis tournament was held in Mr. Court's srounds.5 rounds. The headmaster of the school, Ir. W. W. Hills, aSnd Mr. Savage, ; were the*;; speakers. The y ?i proceeds, which amounted to about £90, included a donation ■ of 'I £5 i i rom '"*:■ Mr- Savage. -. "<' The tennis tournament, ; played between teams representing John Court's, Ltd., and Heme Bay, resulted 'in a win for the, former.
