TE PUKE ISOLATED.
WATER SUPPLY FAILS.
MAIN ROADS IMPASSABLE.
[BY TELEGRAPH. OWJ I CORRESPONDENT.] ' TE PUKE. Saturday. Phenomenal rainfall during Friday night and Saturday morning caused considerable damage to the railway line and bridges, also to road bridges. The usual train service is suspended. Th& Te Puke township is isolated, as no motor service cars are running. The main Tauranga road between Papamoa and Te Puke is several feet under water in the low-lying parts. The Town Board has appealed to the Minister for Public Works for financial assistance.
Workmen are effecting repairs to the temporary bridge near the butter factory. The water supply is cut off owing to damage at the intake on the pipe line. Workmen .have b«en despatched to ascertain the cause of the electric light being out of action. One farnica* lost" 14 pigs, which were buried under several feet of silt owing to a landslip. , Water found its way under the door of one store, doing considerable - damage. The swamp areas are under water.
