The Banks ? - Peninsula , ; electric power scheme was . officially declared completed by the V Minister for . Public •, Works, the Hon. J. G. Coates, at Duvauchelles Bay to-day. . Mr. Coates said few people realised how much had.been done by Mr. A. Goodwin,, the first chairman of the Power Board, in securing the goodwill of settlers toward the scheme. By his efforts the people of the- peninsula had contributed , between £15,000 and £20,000 ain labour and material. V
"We can go much' further in decentralisation of local government," said Mr. Coates.' "Much more work could; be done by local bodies. The present work could not have been carried out by the Government as it was carried out by the Power Board." .' ' ■■' " - -*&**]
