STOCKS AND SHARES.

The tone of the Auckland Sharemarkeb yesterday was firm. In Government securities, New Zealand Inscribed Stock, 1938, changed hands at £97 7s 6d, with late buyers at £97 ss. The 1939 issue was wanted at the latter price, - but there were no sellers. For War Loans, 1938 and 1939, buyers offered £97 ss, with sellers at £98 and £97 15s respectively. The 1927 loan had demand at £97 10s. Soldiers' Loan bonds and 5£ per cent, inscribed stock were looked for at £101, no holders quoting. In debenture stocks, Mount Eden Borough' sold at £103 10s. In banks, New Zealands had sale at from 61s to 61s 6d, more being wanted at 61s, with late sellers at 625. Australasias at £14 were looked for at £13 7s 6d. There were buyers of New South Wales at £37 15s, and sellers of Unions at £14 8s od. In insurances, Nationals were sought at 77s 6d, and South British at 38s 3d, no sellers responding. New Zealands had sellers at 29s 3d, and buyers at 28s 9d. In coals, Taupiris (ord.) sold at 21s. In gas, Aucklands (con./ changed hands at 265. In shipping, Hud-dart-Parkers (ord.) were done at 41s 3d. In timbers, business was recorded in Kauris at 275. In miscellaneous lines, Takapuna Trams sold at 19s 9d. In mining, Waihis had sale at 295, Grand Junctions at 8s 2d, and Moanataiaris at 3s. New Waiotahis were sought at 6d, sellers Bd.
