Johnston, whd died on Friday, at Calgary Street, Eden, dale, at the age of 69 years, 'was' for 31 years a minister /of " the Presbyterian Church of Now Zealand. ■ He was a. \„j native of Paisley, Scotland, ' *x£>'--*fa}om chosen and stint out by the Free' Chvirch' of Scotland, to ; assist the > church *in New / ?' f,t t Zealand. Hit) first charge was "at Wad-/////./' pawa, Hawke's . Bay,: where \he was '.sta- ■ tioned for 13 i years. ; After % three ;.y*arsl||s|| at Cheviot, 'Canterbury, /Mr. t Johnston came to Auckland, where- .he was in ~| charge of the Ellerslie / Church for over 13 - - t * years. Failing .health compelled him to , [~] resign from the active /ministry and, ; set-1 'v>/| tling ;at V Edendale, / Mr. Johnston became connected ; with/ the I IJdendale Church, for £/ !>j| three and it-half years, { filling the office of S« elder. The funeral took place on Saturday ;at i.Waikaraka.v Cemetery, i and "was/: '; attended by ministers jof the Auck.land Presbytery. The ' Moderator, s the J Rev. C. ' MRS. S. A. BRUCE. : S An old colonist. Mrs. 8. A. Bruce, died at her residence, Waerenga, recently. She came to New Zealand as an infant .in 1864 ;in the ':- immigrant r ship Helenslee, which arrived at Auckland after a protracted- voyage of five months. j "For the last 37 years Mrs. /Bruce" had resided at Waerenga, where her husband was a wellknown/ farmer. *v She/had been suffering from a serious illness for over three years. She leaves an adult family. .One son was killed in action /in France.
