The conditions were; very Variable at Trentham to-day for the continuation of the rifle ; shooting meeting. , A mirage and a troublesome " fishtail " wind sorely tried the tempers of the markesmen. Thomas, an old hand from Linton, put all his shot* into the bull at the 500 yds. range of the Marlborough shoot. Young Haldane got one less. The most meritorious performance waa that of Cadet Booker, a Blenheim lad, who got *• string of nine s's, and then dwelt overlong; on the last shot, which got off the black into the inner ring. He had made only a small score at the 300 yds., but this "all but" landed him a P"* e - . The service teams' match filled £ the rest of the afternoon, 11 J*-** in* revived, and some interesting shootinf was witnessed. Wanganui had mdeltly trained steadily and left the other teams well behind. Results in the Service Teams Matches were : -Casualty Competition -Wanganui Rifle Club (Simmonds, Hamilton, Hudson, Hughes, Patterson) won the match, taking £4 and the Islington Cup. Kaiapoi was second, Wellington Suburbs third, and Cambridge fourth. Machine Gun Rescue: Karorl Rifle Club (Butler, Caughley, Boon, Marshall, Croxton) won, taking £4 and tie Dawson Shield Suburbs was second, Akarana third, ana Kaiapoi fourth. Superiority of Fire ComG!tition:Opaki Rifle Club (Hood, King, opley, Bolton, McCalmont) won. taking £54 and the Club Coffee Cup. Wanganui was second, Karori third, and Cambridge fourth. Wanganui, -which scored the highest aggregate points in these three competitions, became the champion service team for the year, carrying off the Sir John Logan Campbell Shield.
