HARBOUR FERRY TRAFFIC.
«» ESTIMATE OF MAGNITUDE. I The passenger traffic on the Anckland Harbour ferries was the subject of estimates made at the meeting last night in reference to the Quay Street railway proposal. One speaker suggested that of the 20,000 people living in the North Shore boroughs it was under the mark to suppose 5000 crossed to the city every day, their double .journey representing 10,000 passengers. Applying these figures to 300 working days,in the year, a total of three millions waa arrived at. To this were added traffic lower down the harbour, picnickers, and patrons of races, making up another two millions, or a total of five million passengers annually. The Mayor of Takapuna, Mr. A. M. Gould, stated that for the year 1920-3921 t'he Takapuna Ferry Company alone carried over a million passengers, so that ihe figures quoted by the other speaker represented a conservative estimate.
