THE VICTORIA LEAGUE.
SUCCESSFUL "AT HOME." The Victoria League held an ** At Home" at the Auckland Women's Club laßt evening, when there was a very large attendance; Queen Salot© of Tonga was a guest of honour, and there were also present the Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, and Mrs. Gunson, and Sir Thomas and Lady Mackenzie. The president, Mr. Lind Mitchell, explained that the "At Home" was given to bring the new members, of which there .were over 100, in touch with the old members. The league also desired to interest new members in its many aclivities, bo that the work, which stood for service, might increase. Membership was open to all, and was significant of devotion to the Empire and the Throne. The branch of the league in charge of the distribution of books to lonely settlers in the back blocks and islands in the Pacific, working under the Mayoress' War Memorial Committee, was desirous of Bending out a good supply before Christmas, and appealed for guta. of books. J An enjoyable musical programme, arranged by Mrs. E. Sutherland, was con- ] tributed t>y Miss E. Robertson, Miss L. ; Evans, Mr. D. Russell, and Mr. K.Buxton, with Miss E. Plummer as accompanist. J. M. Barrie'B one-act comedy, M The Twelve-Pound Look,"was most successfully acted by Miss O. Foster, Miss D. Rapson, and Mr. "P. WoodsJ under tho management of Mrs. 0. Forsyth. A very pleasant evening was brought to a close with supper served in the tearoom, which was artistically decorated with sweet peas.
