ARSON SUSPECTED.
AVONDAL.E PUBLIC SCHOOL. FIRE STARTS IN BASEMENT* LITTLE DAMAGE RESULTS. What appears ,to have a deliberate attempt to burn down the Avondal* public school wa3 discovered in time on Wednesday evening. About eight o'clock *' - people passing along the Great North Road noticed a glare underneath the school, and promptly rang the firebell. The local brigade, which has only been in existence a few weeks, promptly responded to the call, and soon had the flames subdued before much damage was done. An inspection of the basement of the building disclosed that a pile of inflammable material had been placed underneath the flooring and set aught. One of the joists and a number of floor boards were charred, and had not the brigade arrived promptly the building must have been doomed, for the portion set on fire is nearly 40 years old.
