AVONDALE BOROUGH COUNCIL
Tho Avoudale Borough Council xnei on ■Wednesday, the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Sinaiburgh, presiding. A lenter was received from tho Itailway Department notifying the council that no objection would be made to the use of an unoccupied piece of roadway, where the council had erected a firebell tower. Some discussion took place regarding overhanging trees keeping roadways damp and doing » certain amount of damage.. ±h& Mayor agreed to inspect the properties indicated and report to the .next meeting of the council. In the meantime the councils legal power to compel owners to. cut down tree-j will be ascertained.. Three tenders were received for the supply of additional water mains, that of Messrs. Burns and Co.. £1547. being accepted. A resolution was passed agreeing to tho closing of a portion of Wioklow Avenue and ■vestimz it in the Avondale Jockey Club on payment of £300 to be- used in the improvement of stieetfi ia the vicinity of the raceThe question of certain churches . letting their buildings for hire wee raised,.it being contended by one. speaker that m such cases the properties ehoald. be eub)ect to rates. It waa decided to consider the matter more fully- „,..,, i The question of placing the loan proposal foi tho main sewer before tho ratepayers was diacuesed. The Mayor said that in view of the Health Department e powers tt was mandatory on the council to proceed with the work. The resolution that the proposals be submitted to the ratepayers waa * A motion by Mr. A. E. Blackman that the ratepayers be requested to sanction a loan of £4000 for the erection of a town hall and library purposes was defeated.
