POLICE COURT NEWS.

BREAKING AND ENTERING.

COMMITTAL FOR SENTENCE. Charges of breaking and entering the house of Robert Graham Bell, at Whangaripo, and stealing the pum of £5 10s in money, a razor, and a quantity of tea and sugar, of a total value of £6 ss, were preferred against a youth, 18 years ofr age, in the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M. Robert Graham Bell said that he and his family left the house, which was securely locked, for a picnic. On returning, he found a bedroom window open and the articles mentioned in the charge were missing. Witness had seen accused earlier in the day, with another man who had since been found guilty on similar charges. In a statement made at the time of his arrest, accused said he and his companion were walking through Whangaripo looking for work. The other man went to a. house to inquire the way, and as he had been gone a lone time, accused went to look for him. He admitted taking foodstuffs from the house, but denied the theft of the money. Accused, whose name was ordered by the magistrate to be suppressed, was committed to Court for sentence.

THEFT OP BANK NOTES. A charge of stealing £2 in money, was made against Alice Swanston, aged 28. The owner of the money said that accused was in his room, and when he returned after a few minutes' absence, two £1 notes from his coat pocket had disappeared. He had the numbers of the notes.

Detective O'Brien said that when he interviewed accused, she finally gave hirr. two £1 notes, the numbers of which corresponded with those given previously by complainant when laying hi s complaint. Accused said she would not have committed the offence had she not had a few drinks.

Accused was remanded for sentence until this morning.
