COMMITTEE TAKING EVIDENCE AUCKLAND SITTINGS TO-DAY The Venereal Diseases Committee of the Board of Health will commence its sitting in Auckland this morning at the Hospital Board's office. With one exception the members of the committee will arrive this morning. They are: — The Hon. W. H. Triggs, M.L.C., of Christriiurch, chairman; Dr. J.,P. Frengley, deputy director-general of health; Sir Donald McGavjn, Director-General of Medical Services; Dr. J. S. Elliott, of Wellington; Mr. Murdoch Fraser, chairman of the Taranaki Hospital Board; and Lady Luke, of Welluigton. Dr. Frengley is taking the pla-ra of Dr. T. H. A. Vahnfcine, Lirector-General of Health, who is absent owing to ill-health. Lady Luke and the official secretary, Mr. G. J. Drake, arrived yesterday. Ail the witnesses to be heard to-day are medical practitioners. .It< is , understood tfcat a great amount of medical evidence will be placed before the committee, andthat it wilt;be of a nature to impress upon the public the gravity of the problem'and to awaken public concern;, , The* committee is most anxious that;all possible evidence bearing on this subject aihpald be placed before it, and ! information. The proceedings are open Jo the press and the public It must be understood, however, that if any witnesses desire to give their evidence in camera" committee will respect their wishes.' It is expected that the sitting will conclude to-morrow, and the committee will leave again for the South in the evening. The committee expocta to sit at Christchurch and Dunedin. \
