TE AROHA DISTRICT.
POPULAR BANK OFFICIAL. [BY TELB3RAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AROHA. Tuesday.
Prior to leaving on Saturday to take up his appointment as accountant in the Sydney office, Mr. J. G. Dykes, accountant at the local Bank of New Zealand, was presented by the manager and staff with a solid leather travelling case. The local Orphans' Club, of which Mr. Dykes was treasurer and a valued entertainer, also presented him with a case of pipes and silver-mounted tobacco pouch. Mr. Dykes was given a very hearty sendoff, for he has proved himself a popular townsman and a very courteous and eatable bank official. The first meeting of the newly-consti-tuted Hungahunga Drainage Board was held at To Aroha on Saturday afternoon, all seven members being present. 7.Tie increased membership from five to seven was owing to the absorption of the Wailukau drainage district and other lands of considerable extent, thus making the district the largest controlled bv any drainage board in the Dominion. Mr. F. E. Hughes was unanimously elected chairman, Mr. F. W. Wild clerk-treasurer, and Mr. W. R. Johnson engineer. To Aroha's second community singsong, promoted by the Mayor and borough councillors, is to take place on Thursday evening. Next Saturday the local gun club is to be called upon to defend the valuable C.A.C. Challenge Cup recently won by a local team from the. Hamilton Club. Next Saturday's match is a triangular one, Waihi and Hamilton both sending ttams. The local club's formal opening for the season will also take place during the afternoon. The club has a number of new members, some of whom have already proved themselves exceptionally good shots for novices, and two of them may bo included in the team on Saturday.
