The adjourned debate on tho motion ot Canon James, calling for amendment oi the Education Act to permit Bible instruction being given in the State schools by school teachers, was resumed in committee in the afternoon. Progress was reportec after half-an-hour's discussion, when tin following recommendation, introduced or the motion of Bishop Averill, was sub mitted to synod: " That tho debate b< adjourned until Monday, to enable tin holding of a conference between the movei and seconder of the motion, tho movei and seconder of the amendment, and mem hers of synod who have intimated theii intention to move amendments, togethei with the Primate and the mover." Tin recommendation was adopted by <opei synod and permission was given to th( house to sit again in committee if s< de-sired. A motion by Bishop Averill, proposing that various "funds raised in connectioi with the schemo for a now bishopric o Taranaki be centralised in the hands o the Taranaki Church trustees, was referre< to the committee on trusts. At tho evening session the synod ire Burned the adjourned second reading o Bishop Sadlier's bill to provide for tib constitution of a Board of Missions fo tho purpose of promoting the missionary work of the Church.
