INCIDENCE OF TAXATION
SUGGESTING IMPROVEMENTS. THE JOINT COMMITTEE. PERSONNEL ANNOUNCED. [BY TBJaSOEAPH. — CO-RESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. Some time ago the Prime Minister hinted that it would bo a good plan to appoint a committee of experienced men, representatives of various interests in the Dominion, to inquire into the incidence of taxation, with a view to expressing opinions and suggesting amendments that might- bo considered necessary. Certain names were suggested by the Chambers of Commerce, the Farmers' Union, the Sheepowners and Farmers' Federation, and the Legal and Accountants' Associations, and the result is that the following committee has now been appointed:— Representing Chambers of Commerce. — Messrs. Walter Gow, hardware merchant, Dunedin; W. D. Hunt, of Weight, Stephenson and Co., Wellington; George Khirtcliffo, merchant, Wellington; Peter Barr, accountant, Dunedin; and E. Anderson, Auckland, ex-president of the Chamber of Commerce. Representing the Farmers' Union. Messrs. E. A, Campbell. Wanganui; A. Leigh Hunt, Wellington; J. Bitchener, M.P., South Canterbury. Representing the Sheepowners and Farmers' Federation. —Messrs. W. Barton, Feathcrston, and Norman Campbell, North Canterbury. Representing the Legal and Accountants' Associations. —Messrs. T. Shailer Weston, barrister, Wellington, and E. W. j Hunt, accountant, Wellington. The committee will bold its first meetI ing at Wellington on Monday next, when it will be pleased to hear evidence. Its proceedings will bo officially reported.
