DUTY OF THE DOMINIONS.
SIR J. SALMOND'S VIEWS.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.. (Reed. 10.15 p.nU MELBOURNE, May 1.
Sir John Salmond, who represented New Zealand at the Washington Conference, was asked for his opinion on the proposed Australian defence economies. He said the Naval Treaty signed at Washington might tend to create in the public mind the belief that expenditure on naval defence was no longer imperative. This was a great mistake. It was the duty of Australia, and tho other selfgoverning Dominions to bear their full share of the financial* burden which the fleet imposed.
