RELIGION AND GENERAL WELFARE.
Sir,—The leading article in last Saturday's Hekald was undoubtedly correct in asserting the integrating power ™ religion on human welfare. History, abundantly proves it. Imagine w '.' at social and political life would be Hko if the Bible were suppressed, churches decayed and religion ceased to comfoi t;uide and sustain men in life's trials and temptations ? Even now religion life the whole civilised world is upset, unrestful and revengeful in class warfare. For the time being the world seems out of its course and the devil has got ,n |° the saddle and is jockeying mankind to disaster. Unless He Who cam© to cestro) the works of the devil assert His right and take His place as Ruler of this world, civilisation may become almost extinguished. Our need of religions ' n " fluence in resistance to satanic power was never greater than to-day. Protestants and Roman Catholics will do well to unite all their forces in loyal diffusion and practice of the principles of Christ, only which can secure peace on earth and goodwill among men. F. G.
