GAOL FOR SHOPLIFTERS
TWO WOMEN SENTENCED
ONE MONTH'S IMPRISONMENT.
[BY TELEGRAPH. -PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHT'ISTCHURCH. Monday. Two women, Virginia O'Brien and Elizabeth Ann Fisher, who admitted five separate charts of shoplifting, were each sentenced t/ a month's imprisonment, in the Magistrate's Court to-day. In a statement Mrs. Fisher said she was divorced from her husband and had three children. She committed the thefts in order to provide for them. O'Brien admitted having assisted in the thefts. The magistrate said he could not treat the accused as first offenders, because tney Tad been stealing systematically. Had they been men he wo'iid have sent them to eaol for three months. He added that some charitable institution would look after the children.
