Hoffman, presiding over a good attendance.

The president-elect, Mr. A. Wells, of Wellington, was invested with the badge of his office.

In the course of his reply, Mr. Wells. said he did not regard the position as a sinecure. He did not think the plumber of the past had quite realised the responsibility of his position, being content with being just a tradesman. Plumbing 'had become more than a trade, and they should try to realise that it was a profession. Mr. Wells referred to the value of technical education,; in this business. ■ Plumbers at the present time were occupying positions of great r«sponsibility ? and if they were going to live up to higher ideals they would have to remember that the health of the community depended upon their work, and should do it well.

Among the toasts honoured were "The Visitors, "Municipal and. Local Bodies," City Sanitary Department,'' "Allied Trades," "Merchants/'' and "The Ladios."
