MEAT EXPORT CONTROL

ELECTION OF THE BOARD. MEETING ON MONDAY., i f LARGE SALARIES NECESSARY [BT TBXKIUPH-OWN COBMSPONDBiT.J * WELLINGTON, Friday., The combined Producers' Committee and Parliamentary Committee is expected to havi a full muster "on Monday, when the' Miction of the producers' representatives on the Meat Export Board will be undertaken. A. member of the committee fltated to-day that this method of ■electing i tho board was a temporary measuro, adopted in view of the desirability of bringing the board into existence quickly. It is proposed that.next year a new board shall be elected on a much wider franchise, but this cannot bo arranged quickly, mid delay at the present time is considered to be highly 'undesirable One of the tasks to bo taken in hand immediately by the board is the selection of a representative or representatives m London, to constitute tho London agency for the handling of the pooled meat. The members of the existing committee have been considering' some names, including that of at least one gentleman whose wide experience in the employ of one of the groat meat companies outside New Zealand would be of great value to the New Zealand producers. Such a man would have to be paid a large salary, but tfce committee believes that the board must be prepared to offer large salaries if it is to get the best available service. The Prime Minister stated tills eventog thai the board would be at work within a week or two. He did not know that the election would be completed on Monday, since the committee might have to consult individuals after nominations had been taken, but he expected to see the scheme placed on a working bagia very quickly. Mr. Massey mentioned that the Government's nominees on the board would not be selected until the names of the producers' representatives had been announced. '
