IMPERIAL ECONOMICS.

NO DESIRE FOR CONFERENCE.

1918 PROPOSAL DEFERRED. (Received 6.30 p.m.) Router. LONDON, Feb. 23. In the House of Commons, replying to questions, Mr. Lloyd Georgo said that there was no indication of a desire on the part of the overseas Governments to hold an Imperial Economic Conference with the view of carrying out tho scheme of economic co-operation' agreed upon at the Imperial Conferences of 1917-18. Therefore it would be of no advantage to the Imperial Government at present to summon a conference.

At the Imperial Conferences held in 1917 and 1918, several resolutions were passed urging co-operation of the Governments of the Empire, with the object of safeguarding and developing the resources of the Empire. The necessity for securing command of certain essential raw materials, and for freeing the Empire from dependence on German non-ferrous metals and ores and dye stuffs was-particularly stressed.
