PLAGUE PRECAUTION.

Sir,—lt is now 'Jie duty of everyone to assist the Publio Health' Department in its precautionary measures against an outbreak of plague in this country. I would like to call attention to the state of things surrounding the wharf sheds at some of our small coastal ports. Where tho steamship companies have wharf clerks in charge of sheds, these servants should be instructed to guard against breeding-places for rats by destroying all collections of rubbish and keeping .sheds clean for the storage of cargo. At other places the local body controlling the landing should be held responsible for the sanitary condition of premises. It would be well for the Health Department to circularise' local bodies ana steamship companies to this matter. Sanitas.
