ANOTHER TRAM MISHAP.

TWO CARS IN COLLISION.

CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE

PARXELL SERVICE AFFECTED.

Two city tramcars collided at the Domain Drive corner in Manukau Road at P-M a.m. yesterday as they were returning to the barn after the early morning rush of traffic. Both were damao-ed considerable

An account of the collision supplied by a tramway official yesterday afternoon went to show that car No. of the old "combination" type—stopped at the Domain Drive to enable the conductor to recover his . ap, which had been blown off by the w irid. Car No. 160, a modern vehicle, was following close behind, and the unexpected and sudden stoppage of the leading C ar resulted in the second one crashing into it. The motorman of car 16D applied his brakes, but these failed to act, and consequently the rear portion 0 f car 40 was badly smashed. The buffer and front end of the rear, car caused the carrying away of a portion of the roofing over the rear platform and the throwing out of working order of the gears, while other parts of the stationary vehicle were shattered. Temporary repairs had to be effected before the car could be taken back to the barn. The extent of the damage to the other car can readily be imagined when it is stated that it could only be driven back to the barn by operating the rear gears. Some time elapsed before it was possible to resume, the Parnell service, and the Remuera and Kpsom services were diverted to the main lines. Carp, however, plied between the city and St. [Stephen's Avenue until the line was clear.

The motorman on car 160 was fortunate in escaping serious injury, this being attributed to the fact that the machinery on this car both fore and aft has been provided with better protection than that on the older cars. As it was he only sustained a few scratches on his right hand. No one else was injured.
