APPOINTMENT OF MR, REED. OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. [BT TEUEGXJLPH. —PXES3 iSSOCXLTKrS.3 WELLINGTON. WednesdayThe following statement has been made by the Prime Minister regarding vacancies and pending appointments to the Judiciary:—■ " Mr. Justice Edwards has resigned office as a judge of the Supreme Court, and His Excellency the Governor-General has been advised to appoint Sir John Salmend, at present a temporary judge, to the vacant seat. " Two other vacancies -will shortly" occur—one by Mr. Justice Chapman attaining the age prescribed by the Judicature Act for retirement, and the other by the resignation of Mr. Justice Cooper, who has informed the Government of his intention in that respect. Appointment to the first of these two vacancies has been offered and accepted by Mr. J. R. Reed, K.C, of Auckland*."
