ACCIDENTS IN CITY.
KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTORS. TWO PEOPLE INJURED. . A young man, Mr. Joseph Hillary Carter, a bushman, 31 years of age, was knocked down by a motor-ambulance in Queen Street, near Scotia Place, on on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Carter was crossing the street as two motor-cars were approaching, the motor-ambulance traveling in the opposite direction, and in his endeavour to get clear of the cars he stepped in front of the ambulance. Dr. Lawrence, who was in 'the ambulance, attended to Mr. Carter, who was taken to the hospital, where it was found his injuries were not serious. A married man, Mr. Charles McCarthy, aged 62 years, was knocked down by a motor-car in Beach Road, Parnell. shortly after two o'clock on Saturday afternoon.- j He was crossing the road vhen a motorcar approached. He tried to avoid th« car and the driver swerved in the same direction Jo clear Mr. McCarthy, who was knocked down and rendered unconscious. He was taken to the hospital, and regained consciousness shortly ■ after admission.
GOVERNMENT OF SAMOA. * IMPERIAL ORDERIN-COUNCIL. The Imperial Order-in-Council delegating to New Zealand the mandate for the Government of Western Samoa has been published in the 'Gazette. The preamble to the Order, which is dated Much 'A, 1920, recite.? that by the Versailles Treaty " Germany renounced, in favour of the principal Allied and Associated Powers, all her right and title over the Islands of Western Samoa, and that it has been agreed between the principal Allied and Associated Powers that the said islands shall be administered by His Majesty in his Government of his Dominion of New Zealand." His Majesty has, therefore, been pleased to order that his jurisdiction shall bo exercised by the Parliament of the Dominion of New Zealand, which "shall have full power to make laws for the peace, order, and good government of the Territory of Western Samoa, subject to and jn accordance with the provisions of the said Treaty of Peace." Subject to the authority of Parliament, the Executive Government pf the Dominion may exercise these delegated powers.
