The Peking correspondent of the New York Times states that British and American gunboats have been ordered to proceed up the Yangtsze River to protect foreign shipping from bandits. Owing to i unsettled conditions in this part of China. captains of vessels are afraid to unload cargoes and passengers, therefore it has been decided that British ant) American vessels shall carry armed guards.
