TRAIN AND WAGGON.
LEVEL CROSSING COLLISION.
MAN RECEIVES INJURIES.
A collision occurred between an out-ward-bound suburban train and a two. horse waggon, belonging to Messrs. J. Reynolds and W. Raker, carriers, at the Gladstone Road crossing, near Mount Albert railway station, about 115 p.m. on Saturday. Mr. Baker received injuries to bis bend, and one of his arms, but they are not believed to bo serious. The vehicle was biully smashed. The train was an extra one, running to New Lynn on account of the tramway strike, and Messrs. Reynolds and Baker were returning in a covered waggon to their stables, which are situated a short distance beyond the crossing. Mr. Reynolds was driving, and Mr. Maker was inside the waggon. There is no crossing-keeper at the classing, and no automatic alarm, and a view of the line is obstructed by a largo building. Mr. Reynolds did not, hear the train approaching, apparently owing to thorough weather that prevailed, and just as the waggon was clearing the lino it was struck by the engino and carried completely over tho cattle-stop. Fortunately the swing letrecs broke, freeing the horses. The engine-driver, when ho noticed the waggon on tho line, applied tho brakes promptly, but was unable to null up the train in time to prevent a collision. Mr. Reynolds was thrown clear, and escaped injury, but Mr. Baker was entangled in the wreckage, and received tho injuries stated.
