ROTORUA-TAUPO RAILWAY.
Sir,—ln the report of the meeting held hn Friday, between members of Parliament in "the Auckland Province and the Railway League, Chamber of Commerce, i»nd the Employers' and Industrial Assotiaf inns, I am made to say, in connection *rith the proposed railway between. Rotorua and Taupo, that the line should be laid down by the Government, or the Act should be altered to permit of th» line being constructed by private enterprise. I did not suggest the latter alterna, tive, and never thought of doing so. This fine of railway is of such great importance, and ia of such vital necessity,.if the huge area of land through which it will paFs and serve is to be brought into profitable occupation, that it can only be regarded as a State enterprise. The unique and liberal offer from the settlers of the district of financial assistance tovards the cost places the line in a class by itself, and I strongly contend that it should be taken in band at once.
