PAENGAROA. Tuesday.
The Paengaroa branch of the Farmers' Union, at its annual meeting, elected Mr I. Vercoe as president and Mr. W. Bailey as secretary.
The question of • establishing a sub-pro-vincial branch to cover the district from Waihi to Opotiki, as previously outlined by Mr. L. H. McAlpine, of Morrinsvi'.le, was , unanimously approved. Strong comment , was made, on the necessity for a new post office at Paengaroa, for which there is * vote' on the Public Works Estimates. ' It was decided to make representations to the Government that the vote be expended immediately. The overcrowded state of the "School at Paengaroa Junction came in for general condemnation. It was reported that there were 78 names on the roll, while •there was accommodation for only 45 pupils. Certain classes have been receiving tuition in the open air, but with the approach of winter outdoor work will have to be discontinued. It was agreed to urge that adequate accommodation be prodded. It was deeded to communicate with the district engineer, the Minister for Public Works, and Sir William Hemes, asking that _the services of the stationmaster be retained at Paengaroa Junction.
