SETTLEMENT OF SOLDIERS.
SUSPENSION OF GRANTS.
PROTEST BY RETURNED MEN- ■ f fBT TELEGRAPH. —PEESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. The Government's decision to make no further advances under Section 2 of this Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act has caused widespread indignation among returned soldiers. The matter was considered by the standing sub-committee of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Pieturned Soldiers' Association. The committee passed the following resolution :—"That this committee condemns the action of the Government in withdrawing advances under the Discharged' Scddiers' Settlement Act without notice and calls upon the Government to provide sufficient money forthwith to enable all returned soldiers who have entered into contracts or taken options for: the purchase of properties to complete! their engagements. ; It is understood that other people are ' affected besides the returned soldiers, as' in many cases the civilian who has agreed to sell property to the returned soldier has also agreed to purchase another property for his own use, and in doing so has relied upon the returned soldier being able to secure an advance from the Government.
