The Rotorua Chamber of Commerce, in response to a letter from the Auckland Chamber of Commerco, condemning the 'American Wcbb-Ponwrene Act, carried a resolution of complete accord with the Auckland chamber's opinion. The chamber discussed the question of the branch railway from Rotorua to Paengaroa. It was said that no interest was taken in the prospect in Whakatane or Opotiki. The chamber decided to hold a special meeting on Wednesday to consider the fallen soldiers' memorial and endeavour to arrange a conference on February 9 be 1 tweeh the resident officer, the County Council', and the Hcturned Soldiers' Association, tht, Chamber of Commerce to prepare proposals for a public meeting. It was decided to writ© to the Prime Minister and the Ministers for Public Works, Lands, and Defence and tho member for the district, urging early., consideration of the railway from Rotorui to Taupo. It was decided to request the Minister to take immediate atepit to proceed with the new Rotorua electric lighting power scheme, for which £10,000 has been placed on the Estimates, in view of the procarious nature of tho present plant.
