ROADING THE NORTH.

SCHEME FOR IMPROVEMENT. INTERESTS OF THE CITY. The extension and improvement scheme in connection with the Great North Road came before the Auckland Chamber of Commerce at its monthly meeting yesterday. Attention was directed to the matter by a communication from the secretary to the conference of representatives of Northern County Councils, which met at Maungaturoto on December 14, asking 'the chamber to appoint a representative to attend the next sitting of the conference. Auckland city and all the boroughs and town districts north of Auckland were brought within the limits o.' the scheme outlined ft the conference, me of the main points vi which was the need for a royal commission to define the route of the main arterai road north of Auckland, and to appoint a board of control to be called the Northland Highway Board. The president of the chamber, Mr. M. M. McCallum, suggested that a delegate be appointed as soon as it was known where and when the conference would sit. This course was adopted.
