I . ■ :.-■'■.■ LAST YEARS , FINANCE. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce met yesterday, the president, Mr. M. M. McCallum, in the chair. The balance-sheet to be submitted at the annual meeting on February 24, showed a deficit of £117, due to the fact thst there was an extraordinary expenditure, of £481 on repairs l« the roof v\i £200 presented to Mrs. Denniston, widow of the lato secretary. Mr. McCallum said that notwithstanding the adverse balance, the year had beea one of the most successful from a financial point for many years. Members' subscriptions had been considerably iaoreased, aa well as the rents from the rooms. The bank overdraft had been reduced, from £399 to £159. It was agreed to hold the annual ai&ating on the evening of February 24. The six retiring members of tho council were nominated for rc-eiection, as follows: —Messrs. It. W. Hudson, J. B. Macfjrlane, A. A. Martin, T. Peacock, A. B. Eoberton. aid T. H. Macky. . . An advif-ory committee, consisting of Messrs. R. Burns, T. H. Maskjr, sad A. B. Robertou, or H. W. HudVn, was appointed to assist the Board of Trade when occasion arose, this step being token at the suggestion of the Board. ft was announced that a telegram had been sent to the Prime Mirietar stating that Auckland merchants trading with the Cook Islands were anxious to loiow when an inquiry into the administration of tht, islands would be made, as the position in ■ Rarotonga wan now acute, Mr. Massey's reply was that tho Cabinet was inquiring into the matter.
