Returns received by the New Zealand Alliance give the* prohibition, total for these four electorates as 12,600, and the combined vote for continuance and; State control as 12,414. These figures, added to the official totals, make it appear that there is a majority against prohibition at present of 1404. It seems likely, however, that there is an error in the official 'figures from Waakato, and that the prohibition total should be 1000 greater than returned. This would bring the majority against prohibition to 404. „ . ' ; /The .votes' of over 2000 soldiers have still to, be counted, and there ' .were issued about 1800 seamen's permits and 16,000 absent voters permits. The soldiers! include 1373 at sea and about 700 in England and Samoa. The votes cast by the seamen and absent voters will be counted when the official counts are made. . „ ' . ' '.'.-".' There is a difference of several thousand votes between the - above totals and the calculations made in the Herald Office from the 15 returns a3 furnished by the Press Association. Allowance has been made in the latter for corrections from 11 electorates and for the figures ; from;Rangitikeii,^MQtuei:a,'^d.%alntipu not previously received. - - The returns show a total vote fop prohibition of 260,729, which "> exceeds the number against prohibition by 2162.
