NEW ZEALAND FORCES.
«. GEN. ROBIN'S RETIREMENT. PROBABLE SUCCESSOR. MAJOR-GENERAL CHAYTOR. [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Thursday. It is now regarded as certain that on the expiration of his leave in a fortnight's time, Major-General Sir Edward Chaytor, who commanded the Anzac Mounted Division in Palestine, will take over the duties of general officer commanding the New Zealand Defence Forces, in succession to Major-General Sir A. W. Robin. General Rubin, who has held the post of general officer commanding the forces for the record term of five years and three months, or three months longer than the period originally contemplated by Parliament, is retiring. In the ordinary course of events the usual period of the appointment laid down by Act of Parliament is four years, which period may be extended for one year, so in five years' time General Chaytor may retire as General Robin is retiring now. It seems probable that, in this event, General lytor in turn will be succeeded by Brigadier-General G. S. Richardson, the present general officer in charge of administration. General Robin, who reaches the retiring age for superannuation next year, will proceed to Samoa next month for the purpose of taking over the temporary administration of the territory during the absence of the Administrator, Colonel R. W. Tate. He will be so engaged for several months, and will then return to New Zealand.
