FIFTY YEARS AGO.
GOLD AT WAITAKERE. 22 CARAT QUALITY. (From the HERALD of August 29, 1869.) Wr are informed that a party employed in prospecting by an Auckland citizen in the "Waitakere has found a large quartz reef. The locality is said to be novae ten miles from the workings on the Driving Creek. Recently several gentlemen de- , sirous of testing the auriferous character of Waitakere quartz, crushed some stone and amalgamated it, and the result was i gold at the rate of 2oz per ton.
