MAORI WAR MEMORIAL.
" DAFFODIL" DAY TO-MORROW I VICTORIA LEAGUE'S APPEAL j A "Daffodil Day" will bo held to- > morrow by the Victoria League to raise funds for the completion and erection of the memorial to the soldiers and sailors who fell in the Maori war. It is now eight years since the league decided to erect this memorial in the triangular reserve at the top of Wakefield Street. A bronze figure cast, by Mr. T. Eyre Mack- ! lin, the London sculptor, arrived in Auck- ; land in August. 1915, but difficulty was experienced m obtaining suitable stone for | the base and obelisk. A new contract 'has now been let, and the work is be completed by about the end of the year. To-morrow's appeal has been made necessary by the increased cost of stone and labour, and as complete arrangements have been made a. good response is confidently anticipated. Very successful J ''Daffodil Days" were held by the league i during the war, £200 being raised on the I first occasion for comforts for soldiers at j Gallipoli, and last year £475 for the Tribute to France Fund.
