CONSUMPTION IN FRANCE.
I COMPULSORY NOTIFICATION. Tho French Academy of Medicine recently discussed the * question as to whether the notification of tuberculosis ,' ought to be made compulsory. After a ' I long debate the members, "46 votes to 21. passed a resolution in favour of com- ' pulsory notification, thereby confirming the I views recently expressed bv the French - Under-Secretary for Public' Health. The 5 resolution suggests that the notification should be made through the Public Health ' Officer, who should be bound to profes--1 sional secrecy, and whose duty it would • be to see that prophylactic measures are carried out if the patient's own doctor does not do so. It was also suggested that the obligation to notify implies an obligation on the part of the public authorities to pro- ' vide necessitous patients with the care 5 they need, and also to assist their families.
