THE HAWKE'S BAY SEAT. GEN. RUSSELL'S RETIREMENT. MIGHT STAND FOR NAPIER. [BY TELEGBATH.—OWN OOBKESFONDKNT.J NAPIER, Monday. General Sir Andrew Russell's retirement from the contest for the Hawke's Bay seat has caused much speculation locally. Ho had announced himself as a* candidate, but has published the following notice: — " Sir Andrew Russell withdraws his candidature for the Hawke's Bay seat. He finds that Mr. Hugh. M. Campbell agrees substantially with his views, and as Mr. Campbell has served the constituency, he retires in his favour." The possibility of Sir Andrew standing for the Napier* seat is being actively discussed. The sitting member, Mr. "3. V. .Brown, has announced his intention of going to the poll. Other possible candidates are: Messrs. H. Hill, e.v-Mavor; M It. Aldndge, returned soldier; "and E Atmore. So far the only candidate for the Hawko s Bay seat is Mr. M.
